Pachaug State Forest in Voluntown has over 22,000 acres of public land with many miles of trails and roads available for the shared enjoyment of hikers, snowmobile owners, motorcyclists, and equestrians. The dirt bike trails encompass state and town roads, so vehicles must be registered, street legal and drivers must be licensed.

Pachaug State Forest is located near these regional cities; Hartford, Griswold, Norwich, Westerly, New London, Plainfield, Killingly and Stonington.

Cockaponset State Forest in Haddam and Shenipsit State Forest in Stafford both offer opportunities for dirt bike enthusiasts to participate in privately-organized enduro races once or twice a year. These competitive events are typically one day in duration and sponsored by a regional motorcycle club. Motorcycles must be registered, street legal and drivers must be licensed.

Cockaponset State Forest is located near these regional cities; Hartford, Chester, Essex, Old Saybrook, Meriden, Danbury, Norwalk, Stamford and Bridgeport.

Note: All ungated roads in Connecticut State Forests and Wildlife Management Areas are accessible to paraplegics using all terrain vehicles with the proper DEP permits. In order to qualify, applicants must provide documented proof of the disability with its physical limitations in a letter signed by a licensed physician.

Mototown USA

Description: Mototown USA is America's largest indoor motocross specific riding complex. This facility offers a separate beginners track that consists of sand and natural terrain that is separate from the main motocross track. This facility added a 1/4 mile indoor dirt oval in late 2007. The oval track is used for a winter series, mini-sprints, street-stock style cars as well as flat track motorcycles.

Thomaston Dam

Description: Thomaston Dam has designated off road trails for two wheeled dirt bikes. The trails are open from May 1st through October 14th Conditions permitting.

Three and four wheel vehicles are not permitted. A cooperative agreement for trail management has been in place since 1979 with the Pathfinders Motorcycle Club. State registration is required and safety equipment is encouraged. Two small lots are available for parking at the end of the Dam. Please be considerate of others while parking.
